Who is at risk for PAD or Amputation?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that about 20 million people in the U.S have PAD. This is why it is important to screen for PAD.

You are at risk for PAD if:

  • You are over the age of 65.
  • If you smoke or have smoked (major risk factor)
  • Have diabetes (major risk factor)
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Prior history of heart attack or stroke.

You may have PAD if you have the following symptoms or conditions:

  • Wound on your foot that is slow to heal
  • Dry foot or thickened toe nails
  • Pain or cramping when you walk, which is relieved by rest
  • Tingling in your toes or feet
  • If you have diabetes or you smoke, you are of extremely high risk.

If PAD is not treated it may lead to leg ulcers, infection, amputation or death. Therefore, it is important to screen for this common condition!

There is a non-invasive technology that can screen for PAD within 10 minutes during a regular office visit. Call us today to schedule at one of our 5 convenient locations in Missouri and Illinois.
