About 5 years ago I began noticing that my urine stream was not as strong as it used to be. Over the following year (4 years ago) this became even more obvious along with the fact that now I was awaking 1-2 times a night to go to the bathroom because I obviously wasn’t completely emptying my bladder. I think like most men who experience what I was going through I started thinking about why this was occurring and was it something I needed to worry about. So, I went to a urologist and learned that my prostrate was enlarging, which quickly explained why my urine flow was decreasing and why I wasn’t fully emptying my bladder. I was given information from my urologist about certain drugs I could take that would help me increase my urine stream and that could possibly help me to fully empty my bladder. But, like any drug you take there’s always side effects. There are about 250k drugs listed in the PDR and I’m not aware of one drug that actually is designed to cure any medical issue/disease. I told this Urologist I didn’t want to take any drugs based on the known side effects of each. I was then given options to medical procedures (Urolift, Prostrate lift, Transurethal resection of the prostrate and simply removing the prostrate etc) that I could have done that could possibly help alleviate my symptom’s. However, each medical procedure I was told about was either only a temporary or partial fix and the risks to damaging or ending my sexual responses were simply more than I wanted to risk. The thought of removing my prostrate and living with the ramifications wasn’t an option for me. I researched each procedure the urologist explained along with reading as many reviews from men who undertook each procedure. In most cases, a good percentage of men who chose to have a medical procedure to minimize the enlarged prostrate and its affects on their bladder and sexual health had to have the same procedure repeated 3-4 years down the road. So, I went to another Urologist to get a second opinion. The second Urologist was akin to a used car salesman. He really tried to sell me on the Urolift procedure. In fact, his stubbornness in pushing this procedure gave me great reservations and told me all I needed to know about his motivations. Both Urologists basically said the same thing when I asked what could happen if I simply ignore my prostrate problem. Both said if I chose to ignore what was occurring my issue would simply get worse and eventually I’d start experiencing more severe issues. One Urologist told me that eventually I would get tired of living with it because it’s only going to get worse and I’ll be back to see him down the road. At that point I chose to ignore the issue because of the information I was given at that time by both Urologists that included the drugs and procedures they pushed. I figured I could live with getting up 1-2 times each night to pee. I started taking supplements for prostrate health and watching was I was eating as certain foods have a negative affect on the health of your prostrate. Of all the over-the-counter prostrate health supplements and diets I tried none of them really helped me much. Fast forward to January of 2024. Now, on average I was getting up 2-5 sometimes 7 times a night to pee. I suffered these conditions even though I didn’t drink liquids after 7pm other than to swish out my mouth and if I did drink anything it was only a sip. The lack of good sleep began taking its toll on my health and mental stability. My awake time consisted of having the urge to pee about every 90 minutes or every two hours. Well, both Urologists were right about one thing. My issues simply got worse. Now I was on a mission to learn as much as I could about all the known procedures available to me at the time that would help alleviate my symptoms and allow me to get my normal life back. I came across a procedure called Prostrate Artery Embolization. Neither Urologist I went too mentioned this procedure. The more I learned about Prostrate Artery Embolization the more I liked what I was reading, especially the reviews by men who had it. The PAE is non-surgical and low risk. In simple terms a qualified doctor makes a small incision in either your wrists of groin area and inserts a hollow tube into the main artery that supplies blood to the right and left side of your prostrate. Another smaller tube in inserted in the first tube that’s filled with small beads that the doctor deposits into the largest arteries that supply blood flow to the prostrate. These small beads stay in the artery where they are deposited and reduce the blood flow to the prostrate without cutting off the blood supply so the prostrate doesn’t die. Over a short period of time 10-14 days you should notice an increase in urine flow and a more substantial emptying of your bladder. Viola, I found a procedure that had minimal/very low risks that was done as an outpatient procedure and according to the vast majority of reviews by men who had it worked for them. In September of 2024 I made an appointment with Dr. Akinwande of the Midwest Institute for Non-Surgical Therapy (MINT STL). I knew I had found the procedure I was looking for even before meeting Dr. Akinwande. After the first consult with Dr. Akinwande I made my decision to go with the procedure he articulated during my consult. My first procedure with Dr. Akinwande occurred in November of 2024. But, as Dr. Akinwande explained in his consult sometimes the arteries have too many turns and it takes too much time to finally reach the destination he has chosen to deposit the beads. Since they were keeping me flooded with contrast to see which artery would work best Dr. Akinwande decided I spent too much time under sedation and had too much contrast put into my system. So, he did not attempt to do the left side. After the procedure you’re told to go home and basically stay in bed or do nothing that requires you to lift over 5 pounds of strain in any way until about 5 days. You’re also supposed to take anti-biotics, stool softener and another drug to help reduce inflammation to the prostrate along with 800mg of Ibuprofen for pain. I did exactly with I was instructed to do to the letter. After the initial pain meds wore off the first night I only felt a small degree of pain on the right side and using a scale of 1-10 I’d say I was a solid 2. More of an annoyance than pain. The very next day the pain went away. After about 2 weeks I did notice a minimal improvement in my urine stream and from that period up until January 2025 I average getting up 2-4 times each night. SO, an improvement, yes, but a minimal improvement at best. But, keep in mind I only had one side done. Because my work schedule changed I wasn’t able to get the left side done until January 2nd of 2025. When I arrived for the second procedure Dr. Akinwande asked me if I had noticed any improvement in urine flow and emptying my bladder. I simply told him yes, but it was minimal improvement. After the procedure to the left side artery that supplied blood to my prostrate I went home just like the first time. But, when the initial pain meds wore off the 800MG Ibuprofen prescription they gave me simply didn’t cut it. Going back to that pain scale of 1-10 I was at a solid 8, bordering on 9. I don’t know what happened or what changed but the pain was so intense I knew there’s was no way I could sleep without taking something much stronger. I called the MINT STL office and after telling the nurse what I was experiencing, Dr. Akinwande sent a prescription out for Percocet. That greatly helped and out of the 10 pills the prescription came with I only needed to take one each night for 2 nights. By the 3rd day the pain quickly subsided and became more of an annoyance. Fast forward 3 weeks later. I now average getting up 1-2 each night. When I urinate my stream is much stronger and lasts much longer. I finally feel like I’m almost completely emptying my bladder. My awake time changed as well. Depending upon my fluid intake I can go 3-4 hours without having the urge or need to urinate. Also, to put the icing on the proverbial cake I’m finally getting the sleep I so desperately needed. I tried to keep this review as short as possible but I didn’t want to leave anything out of what I experienced. I hope this review will help other guys make an informed decision about which procedure may be best for them if they suffer the same symptoms I did. If you’re in the Saint Louis area consider giving Dr. Akinwande and his staff a call to see if this procedure is best for you. They treated me very well and I felt comfortable putting myself in their hands. In closing, I strongly recommend any guy who’s life has drastically changed like mine did due to an enlarged prostrate to consider looking into having the same procedure I did. It worked for me and has changed my life for the better. But, don’t wait as long as I did.

From the moment I walked in to the office I was greeted very genuinely and professionally by the office staff Ms. Amanda. I was amazed at the method of insurance and proper questions and questioners both paper and tablet. Then at time to be greeted and examined in office rooms the knowledge and thorough treatment and professional pictures of my questionable areas for treatment by Deron the MA and he was able to enter and upload information directly into the tablet to the NP Laura while able to insure professionalism due care and assurance of I was in good hands it was also pleasant to know he was a fellow veteran. The at the time Ms. Laura entered it was obvious she reviewed my data and photos she was very easy to understand and seemed to be very knowledgeable which put me at ease while explaining that there would be more test to include ultrasound so we scheduled for next Friday I wanted to do it early because I was going out of town. So they scheduled me however before I could drive of the parking lots I was called by the scheduler and asked if I could come back for ultrasound I was able to and glad I did as it allowed me to be able to leave town Friday but that wasn't the tip of the Iceberg I was giving ultrasound by Mimi I think was her name and she was originally from Africa the ultrasound was about an hour couldn't tell because the conversation was very professional and pleasant you could tell she was also very detailed and that she was looking for actual results and not being false in her readings. Then as I was leaving i believe the young women was Renesha was very nice and thorough with my instructions and procedures along with instructions of what medicines to take and not to take. Deron also was able to get me some badly needed compression stockings I couldn't believe the level of care professionalism from all parties they say the first impressions are lasting I am not at all in doubt that this will continue Midwest Institute thank you I'm looking forward to my next visit.

All Praises go out to Laura Baldridge and her competent team for taking the lead in mapping out my treatment thru Ultrasound and precisely measuring which veins that needed to be sealed shut, thereby allowing fresh blood to return to the heart. She put me at ease by describing each procedure before she performs them. Thereby giving me a much-needed education about the entire procedure. This is professional care with an emphasis of Love for the patient. I also want to give a huge shout of praise to the team that assisted Laura in my many treatment sessions. They are Deron, Kyara Barry, Samantha and Amanda. They each played an integral part in the services rendered. Also I give a special praise to Kyara Barry by assisting me with special problem that needed her loving support. I Praise Jehovah God, the sovereign of the universe for her assistance. It was sometime in July pf 2022 that I was made aware of Dr. Akinwande and his services with regard to Venous Insufficiency, venous stasis, and varicose veins. For years I suffered with this disease and was told that the only treatment available was compression socks. While compression socks were effective, it only supplied symptomatic relief. Thus, the underline pervasive condition continued to rage out of control, causing my legs to turn dark brown as the bruise blood laid trapped in my skin. This eventually forced blood to leak through the skin causing small sores. After being evaluated by one of Dr. Akinwande's experience staff technicians, I was informed that there was a treatment available to reverse this condition and as a result of his treatments and competent care, I give Dr. Akinwande not 5 but 10 STARS for a job well done!! I can't tell you how grateful and blessed I feel that the Lord led me to this facility while I was looking for treatment for my on going bleeding issue. When I say on going, I mean over a year straight of large blood clots that never seemed to end. Everyone was so wonderful here from the nurses to Dr Akinwande and I could tell they really care about you here. I can't recommend this place enough. Since the procedure my bleeding is resolved and I am back to normal periods. Thank you so much to Jesus for leading me to you and to everyone there! Grateful! :o)

The MINT facility is the third Wound Clinic that I visited. The first two both seemed to talk about the same things..... same observation, same diagnosis, same treatment plans. At MINT it's different, they're not just talking they DO a lot of things. Things different from the others and it all looks and sounds logically like it just might work out. So, thumbs up and 5 big stars for the MINT facility.
